The discussion on whether radicalisation is taking place more in online spaces than offline spaces has provoked different responses. It is important that even as we develop programs, narratives and policies for prevention and countering violent extremism, we are informed by accurate data. This ensures that our programs are effective and specific to our target.

The physical space for extremists is slowly shrinking as the military continues to drive out extremist groups from their camps. They are now invading the online spaces. Banning extremist content will not solve it because social media gives endless opportunities for people to have multiple accounts.

We need to take responsibility for protection of our online spaces as though our lives depend on it.

Our lives definitely depend on it.
